Egyptian powerlifter Amany Ali wins bronze at Rio Paralympics

CAIRO, Sept 12 (Aswat Masriya) – Egyptian powerlifter Amany Ali won bronze at the women’s -73kg event at the Rio 2016 Paralympics on Monday.

Ali, 40, was successful in her three attempts, lifting 110 kg, 115 kg and 127 kg, respectively, to come in the third place.

Nigeria’s Ndidi Nwosu, who weighs 71.10 kg, claimed gold with a 140 kg lift, while French powerlifter Souhad Ghazouani, weighed 71.91, had to settle for silver after lifting 140 kg as well, as in case of tie, the lifter with the lowest body weight wins.

This marks Ali’s first Paralympic medal as she came fourth in her first-ever participation at the London 2012 Games.

Egypt increased its medal tally at the Rio Paralympic Games, held between September 7 and 18, to seven medals; including one gold, three silver, three bronze.
