CAIRO, Jul 28 (Aswat Masriya) – The Cairo Court of Urgent Matters in Abdin banned on Thursday the "Women Against the Coup" movement that has frequently rallied in the past against the ouster of former president Mohamed Mursi.

The court decided to ban all the movement's activities inside Egypt.

"Women Against the Coup" is a women movement that was created in support of the Muslim Brotherhood and Mursi who hails from the group. It was formed in the aftermath of Mursi's military ouster in July 2013 following mass protests against his rule.

Violence ensued in several areas across the country in the wake of Mursi’s ouster, which was led by then-Defence Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who became the country's president after a sweeping victory in the 2014 presidential election.

Authorities have led a crackdown on Muslim Brotherhood members and supporters since then. Mursi himself is in jail, serving sentences in more than one court case.

Egypt listed the Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation in December 2013 and insists it is behind the wave of militancy which has targeted security personnel since Mursi’s ouster.

The Brotherhood continuously denies the accusations.
