An Egyptian court released on Tuesday the prominent political activist, Ahmed Douma, after he paid a 5,000 Egyptian pounds bail.

The court will consider his appeal to a six-month jail sentence in October.

Douma was accused of insulting the president and spreading false information with the purpose of disrupting public order.

The activist had called President Mohamed Mursi a “criminal, murderer, and a fugitive from justice” on satellite channels.
